In a previous post I have mentioned my old and cheap sea fishing tackle – and the embarrassment I endure with fellow anglers who look down their noses at it in disgust. A few days ago I went freshwater fishing for a change and I actually had people coming up to me stating their admiration at the antiquity of my gear.
Not sure how to take this as ‘my gear’ is fairly modern to me. Sorry, nobody can better a Mitchell 300. And yes, I do admit my rod looks like a cane one, however, that was the colour in those days of hollow glass made by Edgar Sealy. As an occasional freshwater angler, I have not browsed around the tackle shops for the latest rods and reels and the gear that I have got is fine … and in my opinion cannot be bettered.
So when I go freshwater fishing now I feel like Mr Crabtree. The only consolation is, I’ve got a fortune in vintage rods and reels that I could sell on eBay.
