Right – it’s not funny anymore. It’s past the middle of April and it is still winter. These high pressures are not warming things up that much and seem detrimental on the fish catches. Some scientific specifics (from ‘sad’ Dave’s roving digital thermometer) were that the sea temperature in last night’s three hour match was 8.7c and the air temp only 7.4c. Much too cold!
A dozen anglers fished the latest Pier/Beach rover with them fishing the length of the club’s boundaries. Some had gone to the Sandwich Bay area to hopefully entice a ray and some to Kingsdown (the known dogfish Eldorado). The only contestant that fished the pier failed to weigh-in. However, it was left to those who fished the Groynes to catch the meagre supply of fish to scoop the first two places. Non-member Gavin Archer found a decent dog of 570g (heaviest fish) to boost his winning weight of 730g just beating John Green’s three fish catch at 590g. Third place, fishing Kingsdown, went to Dave Chamberlain, who on his first cast caught a 190g dab (heaviest flat) and last cast a dogfish for a total bag of 570g. Fourth and fifth places were Saul Page 240g and Steve Hackett 210g.
Soon be summer … we hope!
