With the pier closed evenings till Spring this was a beach rover.
Weather was very pleasant for the clubs first match of the year. However, with the fish, it was not quantity but quality that made the winner. Almost every cast produced fish, unfortunately most were undersize. The few dogfish that were caught made the difference to the total weight of dabs, whiting, slugs and even some pouts that came to the scales.

New member Sam Collier, from Ramsgate, had two dogs in his mixed catch of 18 fish for 4.660kg which beat Tim Flagg’s 3.320kg. Sam fishing the Walmer Castle stretch and caught steadily throughout the match. Saul Page blitzed the Bay for 26 liners to come third with 3.180kg. Fourth and fifth places went to Alan Underdown 2.840kg and Dave Andrews 2.820kg in the 18 entry match. Largest fish was a dog of 960g caught by Richard Yates and heaviest flat, a flounder of 290g, by Ken Withington.
