With high water at 7pm and an easterly blow stopped the tide dead in its tracks. Darkness helped the 12 competitors find some fish with the Walmer end yet again producing most. Those dogfish, although not in their usual numbers, pushed the whiting bashers into ‘also runs’.

Herne Bay angler, John Chalk, ‘chalked’ up a 11 fish win with 4.150kg (also the heaviest fish, dog 970g). Second place went to Deal’s Tim Flagg with 12 fish at 3.200kg and third was Steve Hackett’s 2.630kg. Tackle dealer Fred Leach was the only competitor who fished the pier in the ‘you choose where’ match and gallantly clocked up a 13 fish catch for 2.590kg and came fourth. Fifth position went to Alan Underdown in the three hours match … must try harder Alan! The least amount of fish was from the Bay and bites after the first hour were a premium.

The beach feed is cracking on at north Deal and should give new ground to the anglers when completed. It will be interesting to see the finished project as there has been so much speculation on the results so far.
