Question: Where have all the pouting gone? Answer: Deal Pier.
Because the summer weather helps the sea to clear, the pouting gather around the pier legs in their thousands. Top match angler Saul Page managed to catch 73 in an incredible bout of speed fishing throughout the three hour comp. His weight of 10.090kg was enough to put him in first place. Dogfish king Alan Underdown fished his usual peg at Walmer and landed 12 dogs for 7.660kg to position him into second place. Tim Flagg, also fishing the pier, spurned the pouts and went for a better class fish. His persistence paid off with the heaviest and second heaviest fish of the match, two smooth hounds at 1.050 kg and 1.040kg. These, with some dogs brought him third place with 6.580kg just beating Dave Andrews 44 pout fest for 6.270kg. Fifth place went to Steve Hackett’s 5.600kg of dogs. North Deal area fished patchy with a few blanks and a smattering of dogs for some of the 19 entrants. Next beach comp Wednesday 11.7.12 7pm-10pm.
