Just a reminder of next Sunday’s Junior Festival on Deal Pier. It is a very relaxed comp and there are some great prizes and trophies on offer. To avoid any disillusionment, all the entrants get a prize, plus crisps, drinks and sweets. For those parents who want to have a look around Deal, the kids will be looked after by the club’s fishing coach and club officials. It is always an enjoyable day for the juniors - and the parents comments in the past are that the kids will be talking about the event for weeks after. You never know, they might even take up the sport … saves worrying what to buy them at Christmas (although a score of lug might disappoint some).

The threat of rain never materialized and the sun kept shining throughout the first Deal Angling Club 1919 Junior Pier Festival. However, the wind was strong and the sea clear. Apart from one sizable pouting the rest of the juniors had to make do with a great amount of undersize pout, wrasse and gobies in the catch and release comp.

The winner was Miss Georgie Withington from Deal who caught the only sizable fish along with a staggering 47 of undersize. Second place went to Ethan Cross with 10 undersize just beating his brother Charlie with 9 undersize. Joint third place went to young Elenor Pitcher.

Apart from the lack of better fish, 23 registered fish caught and all of the 39 juniors went home with a prize and trophies.

The next major 1919 junior festival will be held on the 12th August.

At last the weather was perfect for the last of this year’s Deal Angling Club 1919 Junior Pier Festival. The warm calm conditions produced some unusual fish with red mullet, *beep* and ballan wrasse being amongst the catches. Winner with 470 cm of fish (catch, measure and return) was Chatham junior, Tommy Barfoot. Lewis Amos, from Canterbury was second with 250cm and local girl Erica Garcia was third with 190cm. All of the 34 youngsters won a prize and some are going on to fish the monthly junior comps that the club organises.
